A woman was arrested in connection with a fatal crash in LaPorte County in February.

According to officials, 40-year-old Lashea Bird was driving a vehicle on US 20. Kendra Murphy was in the vehicle with Bird when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree at the northwest corner of US 20 and Wilhelm Road.

Bird suffered an upper body injury in the accident, while Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.

In March, a LaPorte County District Court judge issued a sealed arrest warrant for Bird on three counts of operating under the influence of alcohol resulting in death.

Authorities then learned that Bird had fled to Texas. Fast forward two weeks ago – a U.S. Marshals Service task force in Tarrant County, Texas captured Bird, who waived extradition and was instead extradited to LaPorte County, where she was being held on $20,000 cash bail becomes.
