Gulf Shores police officer honored for saving a man’s life

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) – A Gulf Shores police officer was recognized for his “quick response and actions in saving a guest’s life,” the city said in a Facebook post.

GSPD Officer Gabe Trujillo was honored with a Life Saving Award during yesterday’s City Council meeting.

According to the post, the award stems from an incident on April 26, 2024, when officers were called to the 1500 block of Sandpiper Lane regarding a possible male patient in cardiac arrest.

Trujillo, who was the first officer on the scene, found the patient “lying on his back, bruised and unresponsive” and began CPR.

Through Officer Trujillo’s life-saving efforts, a “large piece of food and fluid dislodged from the patient’s throat” and the man regained consciousness.

The man’s husband and daughter prepared statements for Officer Trujillo expressing their gratitude.

The man wrote in his statement: “Officer Trujillo, your expertise and attitude under tremendous pressure are what I needed to get through the crisis.” You, sir, are my angel and my hero! I salute you and all those who work to protect this country and its local communities forever.”

The daughter’s statement read: “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for saving my father. Thank God you were there that night.

“Thank you for your heroic efforts and for giving my family and me more time with my father.”
