Digital Alert Systems, Inovonics partner for external EAS surveillance devices

LYNDONVILLE, NY– Digital Alert Systems and broadcast equipment provider Inovonics have announced a new joint solution for broadcasters who want or need external monitoring receivers for their Emergency Alert System (EAS) devices.

“Working with Digital Alert Systems to integrate our two products will make EAS surveillance and retransmission more robust and reliable for the broadcast industry,” said Ben Barber, president and CEO of Inovonics. “Clean audio and reliable reception of EAS sources are not only good for our customers, but are also required by the FCC.”

The solution combines Inovonics’ Model 677 AM/FM/NOAA Triple Tuner Receiver with Digital Alert Systems DASDEC-II, DASDEC-III and One-Net SE emergency messaging devices. While Digital Alert Systems’ DASDEC series offers the option of internal receivers, some customer sites or configurations require external or external tuners to monitor their required EAS assignments. In these applications, the Model 677 offers a compact yet powerful receiver set for these difficult situations, the companies reported.

The 677 Triple Tuner can be easily connected to DASDEC-II/-III models. It offers a lot of flexibility as it can monitor any combination of AM, FM and NOAA broadcasts with three independent receivers. Additionally, the 677 features a user-friendly web interface with remote monitoring features such as: E.g. reception error notifications and remote verification via audio stream.

Primarily serving as an off-air monitor/receiver for EAS and NOAA emergency broadcasts, the 677 acts as a stable and reliable radio receiver and audio source for connection to a DASDEC/One-Net device that either does not have the internal tuner option or which may require a more robust tuner for difficult reception situations.

Digital Alert Systems has created an application note that explains how to interface the Model 677 with various DASDEC configurations in both two- and four-input devices. This application note entitled “Using the Inovonics Model 677 External Receiver with DASDEC-II/III” is available here. The document describes the cabling between the two components with several options depending on the specific DASDEC-II or DASDEC-III model.
