Massive Man Attacked by Bear in Wyoming National Park – NBC Boston

Officials said a Massachusetts man was seriously injured after being attacked by a bear in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming over the weekend.

The attack occurred Sunday afternoon in the area of Signal Mountain Summit Road, the National Park Service said in a news release Monday.

According to officials, Grand Teton National Park rangers and Teton County search and rescue personnel were on scene to provide emergency medical care.

The 35-year-old man was subsequently flown to the hospital, where he is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery, officials said. His name has not been released.

Based on the initial reports from the injured party and preliminary information obtained through the investigation, it appears that the incident was a surprise encounter with two grizzly bears. One of the bears, it is said, attacked the 35-year-old.

Due to the attack, Signal Mountain Summit Road and Signal Mountain Trail are currently closed to the public.

Officials reminded the public how to prevent conflict between people and bears, saying in part: “Never leave your food unattended unless it is properly secured. Maintain a clean warehouse and follow all food storage instructions. Store all attractants.”

They also advised the public to properly store trash until it can be disposed of in a bear-proof dumpster.

“If you see a bear, please give it space. Always stay at least 100 meters away,” officials said.
