A woman crossing a main street in Midtown was struck and killed by a car Monday evening, according to Anchorage police. Police arrested the driver after he allegedly left the scene of the accident.

Larry W. Anderson, Jr., 40, was taken into custody following the collision on A Street, police said in an online statement. The victim has not been named as police notify her family.

According to police, officers responded to the collision near Sullivan Arena on A Street between Fireweed Lane and East 16th Avenue at 6:15 p.m. Monday. Police said the woman was crossing A when she was struck by a northbound Dodge Charger.

“The victim was not in a crosswalk; She was pronounced dead at the scene by AFD paramedics,” the police statement said.

Police said Anderson, the driver of the Charger, left the crash site without notifying them. He was arrested nearby shortly afterwards and charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid.

Anderson was being held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on Tuesday.
