Several Houston-area schools closed Tuesday due to storm damage and power outages.

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Some Houston area schools will remain closed Tuesday as the region continues to recover from damage from last week’s deadly storms.

The following schools have suspended classes and will remain closed on Tuesday, May 21:


HISD closed 36 schools Tuesday, including Heights High. The air conditioning broke down on Monday, forcing early layoffs. HISD says meals will be available on closed campuses today (Tuesday).

Cy-Fair ISD and Spring Branch ISD announced Monday that schools would also be closed Tuesday, citing that several schools and facilities are still without power.

CFISD said they still have 16 campuses, two transportation centers and one early learning center without power. Additionally, several large communities in the Cy-Fair area remain without power.

The Channelview ISD Child Nutrition Department will feed children ages 0-18 on Tuesday at the Barrett-Lee Early Childhood Center from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. They will only serve lunch to the children.
