Passenger killed, 30 injured as flight hits severe turbulence

LONDON – A passenger on a Singapore Airlines flight died on Monday when the plane encountered severe turbulence, according to the airline.

More than 30 other people were injured aboard the Singapore-bound Boeing 777-300ER, which was diverted to Bangkok.

The flight, which departed from London, was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, the airline said in a statement.

“Singapore Airlines extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the airline wrote on social media. “We are working with local authorities in Thailand to provide necessary medical assistance and are sending a team to Bangkok to provide additional assistance if needed.”
