“He took innocent lives”: Families of victims of Porsche accident in Pune want bail for teenage driver to be canceled and strict action taken

The family of 24-year-old Ashwini Koshta, who was mowed down on the streets of Pune by a drunk teenager driving a speeding Porsche, were in shock as her body was brought to her home in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Ashwini was one of the two people who were fatally hit by the reckless vehicle at 2.15am on Sunday.

The Juvenile Justice Board’s decision to grant bail to the juvenile on the same day while asking him to write an essay on road accidents and help the traffic police has drawn criticism. Ashwini’s family said they are dismayed at the bail conditions and are ready to fight for their justice at all levels.

“We are in shock,” said her uncle Sachin Bokde. “It is reprehensible that he should be released on bail within 15 hours. He and his parents should be examined. We will discuss the matter once Ashwini’s last rites are over tomorrow,” he added. Asked whether there was a possibility of political pressure in the case, he said it was “quite possible and elections are taking place anyway.”

“We want his bail to be revoked and him to remain in police custody. Because of him, an innocent girl who never saw anything of life died,” said her uncle Sachin Bokde.

Ashwini’s father, Suresh Kumar Koshta, works as an office assistant in the state power department. One of his sons, Samprit Koshta, is a software developer in Bengaluru.

Ashwini, a software developer, had been living in Pune for two years. She was working at Amazon when she first moved to Pune. A year ago, she changed jobs and joined Johnson Controls Company.

Meanwhile, Satish Awadhiya, uncle of the second victim, Aneesh Awadhiya, said: “The way things are going, I don’t see us getting justice.”

“If he uses the rules to his advantage, he is a minor, but if he drives the car his parents gave him, he is not a minor,” he said.

He added that there were some eyewitnesses who said that the speed of the car at the time of the accident was 230 km/h and that he was completely drunk.
