The suspect in a sexual assault in the Angeles National Forest met women in public and drove them to a remote area in a van, authorities say

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – A 40-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting two women after meeting them in public and driving them in his van to a remote area of the Angeles National Forest.

According to the LA County District Attorney’s Office, Eduardo Sarabia was arrested on May 13 and charged with one count of forcible rape and one count of forcible oral copulation. Prosecutors believe there could be more victims.

According to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, the two women were attacked in separate incidents between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on May 12 and 13 in the remote canyon hills above Azusa.

In the first case, authorities said Sarabia met a woman in the area of the El Monte Metrolink station and started a conversation with her. He then offered her a ride and allegedly drove to the area where the assault occurred – along Highway 39 in the Angeles National Forest.

When sheriff’s investigators went to the scene the next day to patrol, they said they found the van and the suspect, as well as a second victim. The woman reportedly screamed for help when police arrived.

“The cruel and violent sexual assault these two survivors suffered at the hands of the alleged suspect is deeply disturbing and unfathomable,” Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the victims at this incredibly difficult time.”
