Girl, 13, arrested after making false report of shooting at Dania Beach school – NBC 6 South Florida

A 13-year-old girl was arrested after authorities say she filed a false report about a school shooting in Dania Beach.

Officials with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said the girl reported to 911 that there had been a shooting at Olsen Middle School on Friday.

She said she told the dispatcher she was joking, but the call had already been disconnected.

The girl also said she received a call back from 911 but didn’t respond out of fear.

Detectives spoke to the girl, who said she didn’t think her report would result in police action, but officers drove to the school and quickly gave the all-clear.

The girl was later arrested for making a false statement about violent use of a firearm and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

“BSO reminds the community that these types of threats are taken seriously and fully investigated and may result in criminal charges,” BSO said in a statement. “In addition, anyone who sees or hears these types of threats should report them to law enforcement or submit them to the SaferWatch app.”
