According to West Melbourne Lt. Graig Erenstoft, officers responded to the area of ​​US 192 and Meadowlane Avenue for a traffic collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians.

When officers arrived, they found two people, a man and a woman, lying in the street with life-threatening injuries. Both victims were taken to a local hospital.

Lt. Erenstoft said the male victim, identified as 45-year-old Bernard Aloyious Letzinger of West Melbourne, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at hospital. The female victim, who has not been identified by authorities, is said to be in critical but stable condition.

“The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement. This accident is currently under investigation as traffic investigators work to determine the cause of the accident,” said Lt. Erenstoft.
