Free agent for Buffalo to steal from Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche have just been eliminated by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Looking at their unrestricted free agents, many players are expected to hit the free agent market. Jonathan Drouin, Caleb Jones and Pavel Francouz are just a few of these names.

For the Buffalo Sabres, the only player I wish they would draft from the Avalanche is defenseman Sean Walker. He played in 81 games this season between the Philadelphia Flyers and Colorado, in which the Keswick, Ontario native scored 10 goals and recorded 19 assists for 29 points.

In addition to his numbers, the defender also posted a +11 during the 2023/2024 campaign. Even though he didn’t play a role in the playoffs, he had his best statistical season this year. If Walker is available, the Sabers should not hesitate to sign the blue liner.

He’s 29 years old and had a cap hit of $2,650,000 last season, so the Sabers wouldn’t have to spend a ton of money. Walker is also a right-handed shot, which is something Buffalo needs. The Sabres’ blue line remains a glaring problem, so adding a player like Sean would be a good step in the right direction.

I don’t know where Walker would be in terms of the duo, but he would still be a good addition to the team. As he approaches his twenties, it helps to have some experience on a very young defensive core. Before joining the Avalanche, Walker signed a 4-year, $10,600,000 contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

I’m not sure how much renovation Sabers general manager Kevyn Adams will make with the blue line, but if Walker is indeed available, then Buffalo should try to bring him in. The Columbus Blue Jackets are the next team we will look at.
