Quincy’s senior service director on administrative leave pending investigation – NBC Boston

The mayor of Quincy, Massachusetts, has fired the department’s head following an investigation that uncovered “serious financial irregularities” in the Department of Elder Care.

Senior Services Director Tom Clasby has been on paid administrative leave for weeks but has been out of office since Friday at 5 p.m., Mayor Thomas Koch said Thursday in a letter to Clasby that was obtained by NBC10 Boston on Monday.

It was not immediately clear what Clasby was accused of, although Koch provided some details in the letter as police continued to investigate.

“Serious financial irregularities have been uncovered and are being further investigated by our city finance department,” Koch wrote. “Activities clearly intended to fraudulently conceal these transactions were uncovered and are being further investigated by our police department.”

“Please know that this decision pains me greatly and you and your family will remain in my prayers,” Koch added.

A city official in Quincy, Mass., is on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to city officials, although it was not immediately clear what the investigation is about.

Clasby’s paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation was confirmed in April by Christopher Walker, Koch’s chief of staff, who said only that the investigation was related to “city policies and procedures.”

The Department of Senior Services describes its mission on its website as follows: “We provide services to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We create support groups to address specific needs. Sponsor fitness and sporting events. Offer leisure and social gatherings. Provide outreach at many different levels, such as legal services, housing assistance, and referral services to a variety of elder care agencies. In response to growing transportation needs, we provide medical and social transportation.
