Yellow Alert: The heat will increase this week, strong storms are possible on Wednesday

ROCHESTER, NY – Summer weather is here, and that includes the possibility of strong storms on Wednesday. A yellow alert is in effect for Wednesday, mainly in the afternoon and evening, when a few strong to severe storms could develop. The main impact on the weather will be strong gusts of wind, but any storm will produce brief periods of intense lightning and perhaps some small hail. Stay with the First Alert Weather team both on air and online for current schedules and impacts.

In the meantime, things are heating up! For the first time this season we have officially hit the 80 degree mark. If this seems late, it is. This is the eighth most recent date to ever reach 80 degrees or higher in Rochester. On Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll climb well into the 80s again. In fact, some spots could flirt with 90 degrees over the next two days. A cold front moving through overnight Wednesday will produce isolated strong to severe storms during the second half of Wednesday, followed by a few showers lasting into Thursday morning. This will be followed by cooler (not so hot) and fresher air from Thursday afternoon, Friday and into Saturday. Overall, Memorial Day weekend looks “okay,” but we are looking at the possibility of at least some showers later Sunday and into Monday. This forecast is still a ways off, so you can expect it to be further refined in the coming days.
