After a drunk passenger fell asleep in his car, a private driver pulled up her skirt, took photos and sent them to his friends.

Mohammad Noorandy Wahid, a 39-year-old Singapore citizen, then raped the woman and told a friend that he was “lucky”.

On May 17, he was sentenced to eleven years in prison and nine strokes of the cane.

Acquainted with the woman

Noorandy was a delivery driver who worked as a private driver at Ryde at night.

He met the 31-year-old woman in December 2019, several months before the incident, after approaching her and her friends outside a club while they were waiting for a taxi.

He often waited for passengers outside clubs, the court heard.

After that encounter, he occasionally drove the woman and her friends when they went club hopping.

On February 26, 2020, the woman and a friend met for clubbing.

They first visited LuLu’s Lounge at the Pan Pacific Hotel and then made their way to Avenue at Marina Bay Sands.

At around 2:50 a.m., the two left the avenue to go to another club.

At the entrance she noticed Noorandy waiting for potential passengers and asked him to drive her to another club, Bang Bang at the Pan Pacific Hotel.

At the time, the woman had drunk a lot of alcohol and felt drunk, swaying back and forth, said deputy public prosecutor Tan Pei Wei.

Noorandy had to stop the car twice so she could vomit.

Raped woman

However, when the woman reached the hotel, she realized she couldn’t find her phone and asked Noorandy to drive her back to MBS.

She broke up with her friend at the hotel and got back in the car, this time in the passenger seat.

The victim eventually found her phone in her bag.

Feeling sleepy and weak, she asked Noorandy to take her home and fell asleep during the journey.

Instead, he drove her to the Carros Center in Kranji, knowing it would be deserted at the time, the court heard.

While she was still unconscious, Noorandy pulled up the victim’s skirt, took photos of her buttocks, underwear and genitals and sent them to his friend via WhatsApp.

He also took a photo of her page profile, which he sent out with the caption “Bonus.”

Noordandy then drove to a deserted car park in Kranji Close.

The woman, who had been sleeping during the journey, woke up when she heard the engine shut off.

When the woman noticed her unfamiliar surroundings, she told Noorandy that this was not her home address.

In response, he kissed and raped the victim, who told him to stop but was too weak to push him away.

He only stopped when he thought he saw a police car. At 4:05 a.m. he drove her home.

He later bragged to his friend about having sex with the victim.

When the friend asked for more details and asked Noorandy to “pass them on to me,” Noorandy replied that he was too late.

He added: “She was too drunk and passed out. She doesn’t know who she did it with either, luckily.”

The victim filed a police report the next day.

Had luck

Noorandy pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of distributing voyeuristic images, with seven other charges taken into account.

In her submissions, Tan pointed out that the victim was in a vulnerable state as he was drunk, which affected his ability to protect himself.

She added that Noorandy did not use a condom, putting the woman at risk of sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancy.

Furthermore, the case involved an “abuse of trust” as Noorandy was a private driver and had previously used his services.

For rape, he would have faced a prison sentence of up to 20 years and a fine or caning.
