Two teens arrested in Miami County after breaking into a gun store

PAOLA, Kan. – Two people were arrested following a break-in at a gun store in Miami County, Kansas, Saturday evening.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to the area of ​​255th Street and Harmony Road to reports of two suspicious vehicles parked in the roadway without their lights on. The vehicles were occupied.


While en route to the call, an officer noticed two vehicles on Old KC Road driving without lights and attempted to stop the vehicles. Both vehicles fled and the officer initiated a pursuit.

The vehicles turned onto a gravel road at 271st Street and for the safety of everyone involved, the pursuit was stopped due to dust.

A few minutes later, a caller reported that a vehicle had crashed on 169 Highway at 271st Street.

One of the fleeing vehicles crashed into a creek on 271st east of Old KC Road and the second vehicle crashed on 169 Highway after the vehicle went up an embankment and became stuck.

All occupants of both vehicles left the scene and a large cordon was set up. K9s were used to collect evidence and several firearms and other evidence were subsequently found on the trail.

During a follow-up investigation at a gun store at 255th Street and Harmony Road, it was discovered that there had been a break-in and several firearms had been stolen.

Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with this incident and the investigation is ongoing.
