Man arrested for drunk driving after driving the wrong way during a parade in Northern California

(FOX40.COM) – Northern California police made an arrest for driving under the influence Saturday after police noticed a man driving the wrong way on the same route that was to be used for the Redding Rodeo Parade.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Redding police officers were working with community partners to prepare for the Redding Rodeo Parade when they noticed a vehicle traveling the wrong way within the parade route.

Police said the streets had already been cleared of drivers not involved in the parade, but people who were in the area to take part in the parade had begun lining the streets.

“The suspect’s reckless behavior endangered the lives of several spectators who had lined the roadway in anticipation of the fun event,” police said.

They continued, “The Redding Police Department has an unwavering commitment to community safety and does not tolerate driving under the influence.”

The 59-year-old Redding man was taken to Shasta County Jail for driving under the influence and his vehicle was towed when police learned he was “highly intoxicated.”
