Woman hopes to raise awareness of ‘dangerous’ Sans Souci street after accident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman is on a mission to raise awareness about a street in Sans Souci that she deemed dangerous after she was involved in an accident in which she lost her cat.

It happened in April near the intersection of Hogan Road and East Road.

Kristin Osborne’s windshield came out when she was hit on the side by a car.

Then her car rolled over a few times.

“It’s very dangerous. I would say it’s very dangerous here… other than the frequent stop sign running and the high speeds. “People are driving on average 50 miles per hour,” Osborne said.

Some people who frequently travel in the area said speeding and accidents on the road and at intersections were a problem.

“This street is a connecting road between the university and you can save a lot of traffic lights by driving through this area, so to speak. So people are flying through and running the stop sign,” said Kellyn Kelemen with Springfield Kitty Cat Shack Rescue.

She lives in the area and stopped to help Osborne after seeing the aftermath of the crash.

The two have stayed in touch because Kelemen works at a cat rescue.

Immediately after the accident, Osborne’s cat jumped out of her car and ran away from the scene.

The surveillance video shows the moments when her cat Spooky, who she loves very much, runs out of the car.

“It was so sad. I’m so traumatized by the whole experience replaying over and over in my head. A lot of what-ifs, like, ‘What if I could have just reached him?'” Osborne said.

Ever since their cat ran away, Osborne and Keleman have been setting up traps in hopes of catching Spooky.

They also have trail cameras set up near the traps to monitor what’s happening, but no luck.

Osborne said she wants to make sure no one gets into an accident on that road again or ever loses their cat like she did.

That’s why she wants changes to be made.

“I know for a fact that speed limits are necessary… I find it scary because I was able to escape a situation for the most part, but my accident was pretty serious, it was a serious car accident and I didn’t have any children “When we are in the car, So what can I say, if the next person doesn’t do it, then there could be a loss of life instead of just a lost cat,” Osborne said.

Osborne said she plans to hire an Orlando company to search for the cat.

News4JAX contacted the area’s city councilman, Kevin Carrico, to see if anyone had ever complained about speeding in the area.
