Sindh CM suspends SHO for dumping garbage on Korangi Causeway

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has suspended the SHO of Korangi Industrial Area for allowing dumping of garbage on Korangi Causeway.

According to details, the chief minister expressed dismay at the sight of garbage dumped on the dam and ordered the suspension of the SHO.

The chief minister has also directed the SSP to set up a camp office at Korangi Causeway to monitor the situation and take action against those responsible for dumping waste.

The chief minister warned that strict action would be taken against DC and SSP if anyone dumped garbage on the dam.

Earlier, Korangi police were the first to crack down on the dumping of garbage into the Malir River on Causeway Road.

Dump truck driver Irfanullah was caught red-handed while dumping garbage into the Malir River.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is among the top countries dumping billions of tons of plastic into the oceans, according to a 2018 UN report.

According to the United Nations, around one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased worldwide every minute, while up to five trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide each year – half of which are designed for single use and then thrown away.

To date, 300 million tons of plastic waste are produced every year – almost the weight of the entire human race. A whopping eight million tons of plastic end up in the world’s oceans every year.

The report mentioned that ten of the world’s rivers carry more than 90 percent of the plastic waste that ends up in the oceans.

China’s Yangtze River leads with 1.467 million tons, while Pakistan’s Indus is second with 164,332 tons and China’s Yellow River is third with 124,249 tons.
