Des Moines police are continuing the murder investigation Sunday

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines Police announced Sunday morning that the victim in the May 18 homicide was a 51-year-old Des Moines resident.

At 11:37 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 1400 block of 4th Street for reports of a deceased person inside a home.

According to Des Moines police, officers arrived and discovered a deceased woman inside the home. Officers on scene reported what appeared to be a traumatic injury and called investigators to the scene, whereupon it was determined that a murder investigation had been opened.

The 51-year-old victim’s name is being withheld while family members are notified. The cause of death will be determined by a forensic autopsy.

Des Moines police continue to investigate the incident. Further details will be available at a later date.

This is the fourth homicide in Des Moines in 2024.
