Joe McCabe: Notorious pensioner rapist warns to stay away from the Divis area of Belfast

Concerned residents of the Divis estate expressed concern after Joe “Mexico” McCabe was seen roaming the streets last week.

A local man even managed to take a photo of the predator, who was recently released from prison.

McCabe is believed to have been hiding in a hostel in the city center and is believed to have come to the area to buy drugs.

One parent who provided the image of McCabe spitting said: “It was a homeless man warning the local community about him and how he came and went to Divis.”

“Fair play to this person because no one wants a rapist like Joe McCabe in the community.”

They also told how McCabe fled the area after realizing his identity had been compromised.

Joe McCabe

“He has not been seen here for a few days, although there were rumors that he came to Divis at night to buy drugs,” a source added.

McCabe (40) is considered one of Northern Ireland’s most dangerous sex offenders; parole insiders previously described him as “uncontrollable”.

He recently served a prison sentence for sexually assaulting a young woman last December and possession of amphetamines.

The attack came less than a month after McCabe was released from prison for breaking into a home armed with a screwdriver.

DANGEROUS: Joe “Mexico” McCabe

The criminal gained notoriety in 2005 when he raped a pensioner and subjected her to a “horrifying and protracted ordeal”, the court was told.

The 64-year-old grandmother begged McCabe not to hurt her, telling him she had no money or jewelry.

However, he ignored her pleas for mercy, grabbed her and stripped her naked while screaming, “Kiss me, kiss me on the lips.”

McCabe was sentenced to 14 years in prison for what a judge said was a “violent sexual offense involving significant unnecessary violence.”

However, he was released in 2013 under the old 50 percent remission scheme after serving just over half of his sentence. Since then, McCabe has been in court regularly and has violated the conditions of his early release at least six times.

These include sparking a cross-border manhunt when he illegally fled Northern Ireland and was found hiding in a caravan park in Donegal.

McCabe claims to have heard voices in his head since he was eight years old and has multiple convictions for theft and shoplifting.
