GS Newton of the Ju-Jitsu Association was remanded

A Dhaka court has indicted two people, including Bangladesh Ju-Jitsu Association General Secretary Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Newton, sentenced to one-day remand for allegedly raping a sportswoman.

Dhaka City Magistrate Mohammad Jashim’s court issued the order on Sunday after police produced Newton and his associate, a woman, before the court and sought five-day remand for fair investigation.

On May 14, a female athlete filed a lawsuit against Ju-Jitsu Association General Secretary Newton under the Prevention of Repression and Pornography Against Women and Children Act.

After filing the case, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested him and his associate, a woman, while driving in Shah Ali and Mirpur areas of the capital on Saturday.
