The risk of heavy rain will finally subside on Sunday

Weather conditions are expected to improve from east to west on Sunday as the Kona Low eventually shifts north and weakens. However a Flood watch remains in effect overnight for Kauai County, along with a First alert weather day. Heavy rainfall may continue overnight, particularly on Kauai and Oahu.

Easterly trade winds are expected to return across the state starting Monday. Due to persistent moisture and some instability in the upper layers, somewhat heavier and more widespread rain showers may occur in the first half of next week. However, drier conditions and much more comfortable humidity levels are likely to prevail in the second half of the working week.

The high surf warning has been extended for south-facing coasts until 6pm Sunday as a series of overlapping waves continues. North coast waves will decrease, while west coast surf will also decrease slightly. The East Coast remains small on Sunday but will begin an upward trend next week as the trade winds return.
