A Springfield man was arrested for allegedly firing a gun and breaking into his home after an accident

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield man was arrested around midnight Monday after he allegedly crashed his vehicle, fired a gun and broke into a nearby home.

Police were called to the 200 block of Longhill Street around 10:50 p.m. Sunday for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving shots fired. It was also reported that someone had allegedly broken into a nearby home.


When officers arrived, they found a vehicle had crashed into the front lawn of a home and also heard screaming nearby. The suspect, 32 years old Willie Dejesus from Springfield, was spotted on the second floor of the home. It is alleged that Dejesus broke a window and threw out a firearm.

Dejesus was then found by officers in the backyard of the home and admitted the car was his. He also allegedly stated that he was being followed by another car and shot at that vehicle.

Four shell casings were found in and near the car accident. Dejesus was arrested and charged with:

  • Carrying a firearm without a license
  • Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Trespassing with a firearm
  • Deface property
  • Misdemeanor breaking and entering
