Veteran CNN political commentator Alice Stewart has been found dead.  She was 58

Alice Stewart, popular political commentator and veteran political consultant at CNN, died on Saturday at the age of 58. According to CNN, Ms. Stewart’s body was found outdoors in the Belle View neighborhood of northern Virginia early Saturday.

Law enforcement authorities told the news station that no crime was suspected. Officials believe Ms. Stewart, who has worked on several Republican presidential campaigns, likely suffered a medical event.

CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson shared the sad news via email to employees on Saturday, calling Ms. Stewart “a very dear friend.”

Mr. Thompson wrote: “Alice was a very dear friend and colleague to all of us at CNN. A political veteran and Emmy Award-winning journalist who has brought an unparalleled spark to CNN’s reporting and is known in our offices not only for her political savvy but also for her unwavering kindness. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn this extraordinary loss.”

Any illnesses that Ms. Stewart may have struggled with remain unknown. According to her last Instagram post, Ms. Stewart had appeared on Blitzer’s show just a day before her death.

She shared a picture from the newsroom and wrote, “It’s always a sunny day to join the amazing @wolfblitzer on #CNN with @mariacardonadc!”

US Senator Ted Cruz mourned Ms Stewart’s sudden death. Mr Cruz shared Ms Stewart’s picture on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “Heartbreaking. Alice was wonderful and talented and a dear friend. And she loved America more than anything. She lived every day to the fullest and we will miss her dearly. May God’s comfort and peace be with your loved ones. REST IN PEACE.” Ms. Stewart was communications director for Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Ms. Stewart was born in Atlanta in 1966 and began her career as a local reporter. She joined CNN as a political commentator before the 2016 election.

Ms. Stewart was a regular on-air contributor who gave her insights on the day’s political news. She just appeared on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” on Friday.
