Kanhaiya Kumar says BJP worker attacked him, BJP blames his ideology and image | Delhi News

New Delhi: Kanhaiya Kumar, the Congress candidate from Northeast Delhi, on Saturday alleged that the person who attacked him during his election campaign on Friday was a BJP worker. According to Kumar, the attacker was seen sharing the stage with Manoj Tiwari, his rival and BJP MP from the same constituency. The Delhi BJP unit denied this allegation.
“BJP is trying to disrupt my election campaign, but remember: I have the blood of freedom fighters in my veins and the election campaign will continue,” Kumar said at a press conference on Saturday. “I appeal to people not to be distracted by all this, but to keep in mind the real issues of this election.”
Kumar suggested that Tiwari’s fear of losing a seat he had won in two consecutive elections prompted him to adopt such strategies. He urged the voters of the constituency to respond appropriately to what he termed as the “dictatorship and goondagardi of the BJP” on polling day, May 25.
“Manoj Tiwari is scared. People are not allowing him to enter their ways because he has no work to show,” Kumar alleged. “The village he adopted in 2014 has several problems such as lack of electricity supply and waterlogging. People don’t listen to him anymore. That’s why he planned this cowardly attack on me.”
According to the congressional candidate, people from across the country expressed their dismay over the attack on him. He requested Tiwari to have a discussion and debate with him on the issues faced by the North East Delhi constituency.
Encouraging people to vote in the Lok Sabha elections, the INDIA bloc candidate said, “I want to remind everyone that this is their last weapon. The BJP will mislead you, the common people, to divert attention from the election issues, you should not lose focus.”
Kumar said he had lodged a complaint with the police and the returning officer about the attack. He stressed that as a candidate for office, it is the responsibility of the Electoral Commission to ensure his safety and a fair election, which is why he duly lodged a complaint with the Returning Officer.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor countered Kumar by saying that from the moment the Congress nominated him as the INDIA candidate, it was clear that he would face public opposition. Kapoor described Kumar as a symbol of the divisive Tukde Tukde ideology and that this divisive, anti-national image would accompany Kumar wherever he went.
Kapoor alleged that Kumar’s own home district of Begusarai in Bihar rejected him in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections because of this divisive image. He said that the youth of Seelampur, Mustafabad and Timarpur Ghonda would ensure that the Congress candidate loses his bail.
