Withrow High School graduate killed in shooting just hours after graduating

A Withrow High School graduate was killed in a late-night shooting hours after his graduation ceremony. It happened around 3:30 a.m. near the Withrow High School campus. Neighbors said about 30 to 40 shots were fired. Precinct 2 officers responded to the scene for reports of shots fired. Officers located a victim on scene and transported him to UC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Lamon Wiggins. WLWT spoke with the victim’s family, who said he was shot once in the neck and chest. The 18-year-old graduated on Friday evening. Local advocates say this violence must stop “Many people are suffering in this city. And if you had to pull the trigger or carry a gun, think about the impact on the families you’re hurting,” says Mitchell Morris. A neighbor who is also a Withrow University high alumnus says, “Wiggins’ death hits close to home for us.” “We have a motto at Withrow: Once a tiger, always a tiger,” says Pat Hunley. “My prayers go out to the family.” Cincinnati Public Schools released a statement of mourning over the loss of the 18-year-old. “Cincinnati Public Schools mourns the loss of Withrow University High School graduate Lamon Wiggins. We are aware of this tragic event and our condolences and support remain with the family, friends and family. The district’s crisis response team will be at the school on Monday to provide further support. “CPS will also work with the Cincinnati Police Department throughout the investigation,” the statement said. There is currently no information on a suspect.

“Cincinnati Public Schools mourns the loss of Withrow University High School graduate Lamon Wiggins. We are aware of this tragic event and our condolences and support remain with the family, friends and school community. The district’s crisis response team will be at the school Monday through Monday. “CPS will also work with Cincinnati Police throughout the investigation,” the statement said.
