Dallas priest arrested after home visit – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Garland police arrested a Catholic Diocese of Dallas priest Monday on two counts of indecency with a child.

Ricardo Reyes Mata is accused of inappropriate contact after two minors reported an incident that occurred while he was visiting a residence in Garland, according to Garland police.

When diocesan officials learned of the report, they filed a report with Child Protective Services and law enforcement, according to a statement from the Diocese of Dallas. The 34-year-old was also immediately dismissed from all public positions.

“We are grateful for the thorough response of law enforcement,” said Bishop Edward J. Burns of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas.

According to police, Mata is currently being held at the Garland Detention Center. Bail is $75,000 and $100,000.
