Biden urges Atlanta voters to stand up against Trump: ‘He’s running for revenge’

President Biden, at a campaign reception in Atlanta, urged his supporters to stand up against former President Trump, as the two leading parties head toward a rematch in November.

Biden, in his remarks Saturday at Mary Mac’s Tea Room, argued that Trump was only “running for revenge.”

“My friends, Trump is not running to lead America. He’s running for revenge,” Biden said Saturday, according to pool notes. “And look, revenge is no way to run a country.”

Biden, who traveled to Atlanta to deliver the commencement speech at Morehouse College on Sunday, wooed Georgia voters in the state capitol on Saturday, warning them that ‘unhinged’ Trump poses a threat to ‘democracy’ . He also praised the Peach State electorate for being the “reason” for his victory in the 2020 election.

The president, who won the state by a razor-thin margin in 2020, praised the state’s voters and projected that with their help he would secure the battleground state again in November .

“Tell people that if you doubt the power of the vote, come visit Georgia,” Biden added, according to the pool. “What you have done is incredible. You are the reason – this is not a joke – Georgia is the reason I am president of the United States.

Recent polls, however, show the president trailing Trump in Georgia, a crucial state for his re-election. A recent New York Times survey brought even more headaches to Biden’s campaign, as it showed he trailed the former president in the state by 10 points — the second-highest margin among battleground states surveyed, behind Nevada’s 12-point gap.

“We’re happy with the state of the race,” Biden said, despite the numbers. “There’s a lot to do. We know we’re far from finished. But we know the race is close. Polls vary up and down to a tie, but it’s hard to make a rational poll of our days.”

He reiterated the importance of the upcoming election, declaring that Trump cannot be back in the Oval Office and that “freedoms” are at stake.

“We cannot let this man become president,” Biden said. “The future of our children is at stake. This is not a joke. If you allow me to make my point… We have to win this race, not for me but for America.
