Michael Irvin will not be charged after Texas police concluded the investigation

Back in January, it was announced that former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was under criminal investigation by a local police department. This investigation has now been completed.

There are no details yet about what investigation Allen Police Department officers were conducting. The Dallas Morning News reported late Friday that police closed the case weeks ago. No charges were filed. The city of Allen is an affluent suburb north of Dallas.

Pro Football Talk broke the news in January that Michael Irvin might be in legal trouble. But here too there were no details. Allen PD confirmed to the outlet that there was an investigation.

“There has been an allegation, but we are not prepared to release details at this time as our investigation is still in the very early stages,” Allen police spokesman Jonathan Maness told PFT.

The same goes for Irvin’s attorney, Levi McCathern. The lawyer told the Morning News: “Michael has done nothing wrong, so I don’t even know what an investigation might be about.” McCathern told PFT that there was “absolutely no truth” to the allegation. He also said it was “much ado about nothing.”

It’s been a month of good news and bad news for Michael Irvin

The Allen PD’s decision was good news for Irvin. But earlier this month he received some bad career news. NFL Network, which is owned by the NFL, declined to accept Irvin’s contract. It was described as a cost-cutting measure. He has worked as an analyst for the network since 2009.

This isn’t the first time Michael Irvin has faced allegations of misconduct in the last 18 months. Ahead of the Super Bowl in Phoenix in February 2023, a Marriott employee accused Irvin of making harassing and inappropriate comments toward her. She worked for the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel, where Irvin was a guest. He was in Phoenix to cover the events leading up to the game.

The hotel told him to pack his bags and leave. Meanwhile, the NFL Network and ESPN have each dropped the Pro Football Hall of Famer from their Super Bowl coverage. As the months went by, Irvin only returned to the NFL Network just before the start of the 2023 regular season. By that time, he had settled a $100 million defamation lawsuit he filed against Marriott. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The former Cowboys superstar then took a job as a contributor at Fox Sports.
