An ozone pollution warning is in effect for North Texas on Sunday

On Saturday at 2:29 p.m., the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issued an air quality warning for Sunday. The warning applies to Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Hood, Johnson, Ellis and Henderson counties.

“The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has declared an Ozone Day of Action for the Dallas-Fort Worth region on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable to cause high levels of ozone air pollution in the Dallas area. “You can help prevent ozone pollution by sharing rides, walking, biking, taking your lunch to work, avoiding thoroughfares, conserving energy and keeping your vehicle properly tuned,” according to the National Weather Service.

This warning is valid until Sunday 5:30 p.m

Follow these simple tips from the NWS to stay safe during an air quality alert

• Stay indoors if possible, especially if you have trouble breathing or other health problems, are elderly, or are a child.

• If you must go out, try to limit the time you spend outside to essential activities.

• Minimize the use of items that increase pollution, such as cars, gas-powered lawn mowers and other vehicles.

• Do not burn trash or other items during an air quality alert.

• Stay informed – Listen to NOAA Weather Radio or your favorite weather news station.
