One is injured in a three-vehicle crash near Rock Valley

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Sioux County officials were called to the scene of a three-vehicle accident Friday morning.

On Thursday, May 16, at 7:38 p.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was called to a motor vehicle accident occurring at the intersection of Highway 18 and Garfield Ave. occurred near Rock Valley, Iowa.

Seventeen-year-old Kiara Hickey of Doon, IA, was driving a 2016 Honda Accord southbound on Garfield Avenue when she stopped at a stop sign on Highway 18. At the same time, 62-year-old Rhonda Vandenhull of Archer, IA was traveling east on Garfield Avenue in a 2024 Cadillac XT5, while 61-year-old Gilberto Martinez of Rock Valley was traveling north in a 2018 Ford Escape was driving on Garfield Avenue.

Officials say Hickey entered the intersection where she and Vandenhull collided. They also say Vandenhull and Hickey hit Martinez after the collision. Vandenhull was taken to Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley for treatment of her injuries.

According to authorities, Hickey was charged with failure to yield while entering a thoroughfare.

Damage to the Honda was approximately $9,000, while damage to the Cadillac was approximately $13,000 and the Ford was approximately $12,000.
