The outpouring of support for Laura Woods after a horrific accident means she cannot cover Fury vs Usyk

Host Laura Woods has received widespread support on social media after sharing details of a freak accident that has left her unable to cover the undisputed heavyweight champion fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk for TNT Sports.

Woods is one of the sports channel’s regular hosts and regularly reports on football and boxing.

She was scheduled to be ringside for the highly anticipated bout on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but will be unable to attend due to a freak accident.

Woods posted pictures of her shocking injuries on social media, along with a lengthy caption about what happened and a thank you to those who cared for her.

The Instagram post said: “I had an accident at a holiday home last weekend. I swung a pillow and hit a large glass lampshade hanging from the ceiling above me, which shattered, injuring my face and arms, but fortunately missing my eye.”

“I’ve added the photos from then to now to show that even though it looks rough, it’s already a wonderful improvement and I’m very grateful for that 🤍.”

“It was a terrible shock and I was a bit sad, but I’m very happy it wasn’t worse. So a big thank you also goes to my eyebrow, which took the brunt of it 😂.”

“I’m disappointed I can’t cover more of the fight in Riyadh, but I wish the great TNT boxing team all the best 🤍.”

“I’ll be back soon xx”

After the posting, some fellow moderators, sports stars and celebrities expressed their congratulations.

Jill Scott said: “Laura, I hope you’re well! I wish you a speedy recovery ❤️”
