Citing law enforcement sources, TMZ reported on May 5 that Weston, whom Fulton shares with ex Nicolas Cage, allegedly got into a verbal altercation with his mother at their Los Angeles home on April 28, before the alleged incident became physical.

The outlet said, citing sources, that Weston is a suspect in a battery report due to the alleged altercation. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that “a battery report has been filed.” Sources told TMZ that there have been no arrests.

A representative for Weston did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Weston, who has struggled with substance abuse, was arrested for drunk driving and hit-and-run in Los Angeles in 2017.

He previously discussed his journey to sobriety, telling PEOPLE in 2015, “It got to the point where people thought I was digging my grave.”

The father of four also shared that the birth of his first child helped him focus on his recovery. “The combination of (now-ex) Danielle and Lucian and my dad in my life, that trinity right there, is basically what’s going to keep me here,” Weston said at the time.
