How much of Bobby Slowik’s success is tied to Texans QB CJ Stroud?

HOUSTON — Bobby Slowik was a prime candidate for a head coaching job this offseason. He was at the top of almost every team’s list. However, Slowik and the Houston Texans reached a new deal that keeps him as the team’s offseason coordinator for a second straight season.

Slowik was a popular candidate during the recent coaching carousel after quarterback CJ Stroud had one of the most successful rookie campaigns in league history.

A return to the Texans would not only give Slowik a chance to continue honing his skills as a leader of the offense, but it would also allow Stroud to continue his development.

In the latest episode of the Locked on Texans podcast, Coty M. Davis and John Hickman discuss the impact of Stroud’s success in his second season on Slowik’s ability to stay at the top of the head coaching search. Stroud expressed his desire to continue working alongside Slowik amid teams expressing interest.

“Bobby, someone who, when I came in, I knew was going to push me hard,” Stroud said in January. “He was going to be tough on me. He held me to a high standard all year long. He held me accountable. A lot of times when you guys play well, they kind of let you do what you do and leave you alone.

“Bobby was always on me about the little details of my position and I appreciated that because you don’t always understand that. He was always tough on me, but he also showed me a lot of love – a ton of love. Very He is knowledgeable and can really destabilize a defense. Put has a lot of confidence in his players and really never strayed from what he knows.

Before returning to the Texans, Slowik interviewed with the commanders of Washington, the Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle Seahawks, all of whom considered him a favorable candidate.
