COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A man suspected of kidnapping and raping a minor in 2002 was vice president of facilities at Kootenai Health until a few months ago.

Eric Ferguson was arrested by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office in Rathdrum on Thursday evening. According to the sheriff’s office, he was a suspect in a two-decade-old case out of Oakley, California.

Ferguson served as vice president of facilities at Kootenai Health for approximately two years beginning in 2022.

Kootenai Health responded to the arrest Friday evening, emphasizing that he has not been employed by the organization for several months.

“We are deeply disturbed and surprised by these allegations. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the victim…We had no prior knowledge or information related to the arrest during his employment,” a Kootenai Health representative said.

Ferguson is currently in the Kootenai County Jail awaiting extradition to California.
