Man killed by shuttle bus in front of Walhalla and identified as an employee of a PGA salesperson

A man is dead after being hit by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club. According to officials, 69-year-old John Mills of Crestwood was working with a PGA salesman. He was crossing Shelbyville Road in a dedicated bus lane before sunrise around 5 a.m. Friday when he was hit, police said. According to LMPD, he died at the scene. Mayor Craig Greenberg released a statement about his death just before 2 p.m.: “This morning our city experienced a tragic accident that claimed the life of John Mills, a Louisville resident who will be greatly missed.” His family and our community care our focus on this family who lost their loved one. I have spoken to members of Mr. Mills’ family to express their condolences to our city. This morning we were devastated to learn that an employee of one of our suppliers was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus in front of Valhalla Golf Club . This is heartbreaking for all of us involved in the PGA Championship. We offer our sincere condolences to the family “LMPD released a statement Friday afternoon: “This is a preliminary statement regarding the facts and circumstances of what happened early this morning near Valhalla Golf Club. We are still gathering information and investigating what happened today.” At approximately 5:07 a.m. this morning, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a shuttle bus in front of Gate 2 of Valhalla Golf Club. “LMPD extends its sincerest condolences to the family of the person who died as a result of this collision. All lanes at the scene were closed while the death investigation took place. LMPD officers also directed traffic around the scene of the accident. While an officer was present directing traffic, an encounter with a motorist attempting to enter a restricted area ultimately led to the driver’s arrest. We are in the process of conducting a thorough investigation. We are grateful that everyone involved is cooperating fully.” Shelbyville Road was closed and all public PGA shuttles coming from the Kentucky Expo Center were delayed. They have now resumed operations. Additionally, the start of the PGA Championship has been pushed back to 8 p.m. 35 p.m

According to authorities, 69-year-old John Mills of Crestwood worked for a PGA salesman. He was crossing Shelbyville Road in a dedicated bus lane before sunrise around 5 a.m. Friday when he was struck, police said.

Mayor Craig Greenberg released a statement about his death shortly before 2 p.m.

“This morning our city experienced a tragic accident that claimed the life of John Mills, a Louisville resident who will be greatly missed by his family and our community. Our focus is on this family who lost their loved one. “I have spoken to members of Mr. Mills’ family and would like to extend their condolences to our city.”

PGA of America also released a statement shortly after the crash:

“This morning we were devastated to learn that a worker from one of our suppliers was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club. This is heartbreaking for all of us involved in the PGA Championship. We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.”

LMPD released a statement Friday afternoon:
