Co-defendants in a non-fatal shooting were indicted on a 10-count indictment on May 17, while one of the defendants is denied bail.

Tyshay Moore, 27, and Javonee Jackson, 25, are charged with assault with intent to kill with weapon force, four counts of possession of a firearm during a violent crime, aggravated assault knowingly with a weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault with significant force, assault with a weapon, conspiracy and simple assault in connection with a non-fatal shooting on May 10, 2023 in the 700 block of 7th Street, NW. During the shooting, one victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the face, arm and torso.

Jackson is currently released and has only been charged with simple assault.

According to court documents, Jackson and the victim had a six-year relationship and a child together with a history of domestic violence.

Additionally, Moore was identified as Jackson’s girlfriend.

The co-defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges and asserted their constitutional rights, including a speedy trial.

Hannah Claudio, Moore’s defense attorney, called for Moore’s release. Claudio stated that there were “significant changes in circumstances” and claimed that Moore’s actions were in self-defense.

She added that Moore has no criminal record other than a now-cleared misdemeanor case from 2017 in Maryland.

Claudio also highlighted the “inhumane conditions” at the DC Jail that have damaged Moore’s mental health for multiple reasons, including missed meals and solitary confinement.

The prosecutor’s office rejected Claudio’s request on the grounds that the safety of the community “cannot be guaranteed.”

D.C. Superior Court Judge Marisa Demeo stated that these “new developments do not change the probable cause” that she was one of the perpetrators and denied Moore’s request for release.

A trial date is planned for April 2025.

Parties are scheduled to return on August 2nd.
