Johnstown man convicted of sexual assault of child

JOHNSTOWN, NY (NEWS10) – The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office announced that John Lyman Sr., 37, of Johnstown, has been convicted of predatory sexual assault of a child. He now faces 20 years to life in prison.

Lyman previously pleaded guilty in March to sexually assaulting a minor in a parked car on West Montgomery Street on February 18, 2023. He was sentenced May 17 before Judge Michael Smrtic.

“The survivor’s courage, as well as the countless hours law enforcement and this office spent investigating the case, ensured that a violent offender was removed from the community and held accountable for his despicable behavior,” said District Attorney Michael Poulin. “Violent sexual crimes against children are particularly heinous and cruel. The defendant’s conviction and sentence are a testament to the District Attorney’s Office’s commitment to ensuring justice is served for survivors of sexual violence.”
