Sumter police investigate fatal stabbing, woman questioned

Sumter police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

SUMTER, S.C. – Investigators are questioning a woman after a fatal knife attack in Sumter Friday morning.

According to Sumter Police, officers responded to the incident near Broad Street and Broad Court around 3 a.m. and found 52-year-old Joseph Marion Croft of Camden Highway dead in the road.

Investigators said they were approached by a 34-year-old woman who was involved in the stabbing. She was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and is currently being questioned by investigators, police said.

Authorities have not released the woman’s name or disclosed whether charges are pending as they continue to investigate the circumstances of the stabbing. Authorities described the incident as “domestic-related.”

The coroner’s office notified Croft’s family, police said.
