Police say a homeless man attacked women with a metal pipe in Southern California

Long Beach police announced Friday that an arrest has been made in connection with two attacks on women with a metal rod earlier this year.

On Jan. 4, Job Jesse Villegas, a 27-year-old transient, beat two women with a metal rod, police said in a news release.

Villegas first targeted a woman pushing a stroller at 21st Street and Locust Avenue around 9:45 a.m., police said.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital for his injuries, the child was not injured,” the release said.

Around 12:30 p.m., another woman was attacked, this time at 21st Street and Pine Avenue, as she walked past Villegas, “who hit her without warning with a metal object,” officials said. She refused medical treatment.

Villegas was arrested Monday in Los Angeles and police said he was being held at the Long Beach City Jail in lieu of $710,000 bail. However, jail records show he is at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $260,000 bail.

He faces charges of assault, battery and trespassing, as well as previous warrants. Jail records show he was scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
