The world’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, was stopped and arrested by police officers this morning before the start of the PGA Championship.

He was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal trespass, reckless driving and failure to obey signals of an officer directing traffic. He was released from prison on his own recognizance. It is currently unclear, but doubtful, whether he will be able to continue competing in the PGA Championship this weekend due to the incarceration. Yahoo Sports reports that Scheffler is expected to arrive in Valhalla at 9 a.m., where he has a 10:08 a.m. start time.

Louisville Metro Police stopped Scheffler as he attempted to drive into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club. Traffic outside the golf club was disrupted because a shuttle bus hit and killed a man around 5 a.m

Scheffler drove onto the median to avoid the accident and the traffic stop. Police attempted to stop Scheffler, who drove another 10 to 20 meters before a police officer grabbed hold of the golfer’s car.

After rolling down the window and attempting to speak to law enforcement, the officer reportedly aggressively grabbed Scheffler to remove him from the vehicle.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington was at the scene and police believed he was a friend or agent of Scheffler.

“There’s nothing you can do,” they told Darlington. “He’s going to prison.”

The 27-year-old Scheffler is happy about his victory at the Masters. He had won four of his last five starts.

The start of the second round was delayed due to the previous shuttle bus incident. according to ESPN.

The start was originally scheduled for 7:15 a.m. Now it will start at 8:35 a.m
