1 dead after a car swerved and collided head-on with a semi-truck in Union County

UNIONVILLE, NC (WBTV) – One person died in a crash after crossing into oncoming traffic in Union County Thursday evening.

State troopers on scene said the accident occurred on Highway 601 near East Unionville-Indian Trail Road just after 9 p.m

Troopers said the driver of a car went into the middle of the road and then collided head-on with a tractor-trailer.

Officials have not yet released the name of the person killed or said whether anyone else was injured or was in the car.

Highway 601 was closed for about four hours while police investigated, but has since reopened.
