All lanes of northbound I-5 in Everett were closed following a fatal police officer shooting

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) is investigating a fatal shooting involving a Washington State Trooper on northbound I-5.

All lanes of NB I-5 are closed for the investigation.

WSP responded to a traffic violence incident on I-5 north of Highway 2 just after 4 p.m

A man rammed his vehicle into a WSDOT vehicle and a lift on the shoulder of I-5.

The suspect exited his vehicle armed with a hammer and an altercation ensued between the suspect, a WSDOT employee and a police officer.

The police officer shot the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The WSDOT employee suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic is currently being detoured from I-5 to Highway 2 and Marine View Drive.

According to Sigalert, security begins along I-5 northbound around the Everett Mall.
