Two men were arrested in a sex trafficking case that ended in a car chase and a crash in Detroit

DETROIT – Police said officers were investigating a possible sex trafficking operation that turned into a chase Southfield that ended in a crash Detroit.

Investigators received a tip Sunday (May 12) about two men who allegedly engaged in sex acts with two women at the Red Roof Inn near 12 Mile Road and Northwestern Highway.

They couldn’t find the room, but began surveillance of the hotel when the men were seen with the two women the next day and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver then took off and led officers on a chase into Detroit.

A 26-year-old woman in the Uber was thrown from the car. Her condition remains critical.

Both men suffered minor injuries. The two women, suspected victims of sex trafficking, were taken to the hospital but immediately left.

Southfield police said they wanted to speak with them.

“As I understand that these women are afraid, I will appeal to both women. You are not facing any charges and are a victim of human trafficking and/or were forced into a life as a sex worker,” said Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren. “However, we can provide resources to support you. Both men are in custody and you are out of their control.”

Ricky Edwards Jr., 48, and 60-year-old Paul Alan Dave now face charges.

Edwards was wanted for violating his probation on a 2002 murder and drug conviction.

Police say Dave was the driver who tried to elude police.
