The 48-year-old man was working in Ashfield when he allegedly attacked the woman in his drive-share vehicle at around 7.30am on Sunday, May 5.

He was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and sexual touching of another person without consent, NSW Police said.

According to The Daily Telegraph, it is alleged in court that the 48-year-old touched the woman without consent before driving to a nearby park and raping her.

It says he then allegedly dropped the victim off in a nearby suburb and the woman immediately reported the incident and went to the hospital.

The alleged perpetrator was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Magistrates Court on Saturday.

He remains in police custody and is due to appear at Burwood Magistrates Court on July 10.

An Uber spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au that the driver partner’s access to the app had been permanently removed.

All prospective driver-partners undergo a thorough vetting process in accordance with Australian law before being granted access to the Uber app.

Uber said it continued to update its safety features, including the “Safety Toolkit, Emergency Call Button and Share My Trip feature.”

“Trips on the Uber platform are not anonymous and all rides are tracked in real time via GPS. “We continually look for ways to improve safety before, during and after every ride and use our safety technology to support law enforcement cases,” a spokesperson said.
