13-year-old was flown to the hospital after being hit by a bus in West Valley

A 13-year-old boy was flown to a trauma hospital after being hit by a school bus in the West Valley.

Officials say the incident occurred near Dysart and Bethany Home streets.

The boy was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Officials said the boy was riding his bike when he was hit by the bus.

It is currently unclear what led to the boy being run over.

This incident is still under investigation.

The Litchfield Elementary School District provided ABC15 the following statement about the crash:

On May 16, 2024, an incident occurred between a student at L. Thomas Heck Middle School and a school bus at Litchfield Elementary. As she was riding her bike home from school, the student and the school bus collided.

First responders were immediately called to the scene of the accident and provided emergency care. Due to the severity of the injuries, the student was flown to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Our thoughts are with the students and their families during this difficult time.

The safety and well-being of our students in the Litchfield Elementary School District remains our top priority. The district is cooperating fully with local authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
