FAIRFIELD, Utah (KSTU) – A bizarre accident at a remote landfill in Utah County resulted in the death of a garbage truck driver early Wednesday.

The man killed was later identified as 60-year-old Kurt Warren Gurney, a Lehi resident.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the incident, which occurred just before 5 a.m. at the Intermountain Regional Landfill in Fairfield, occurred after a disturbance involving two side-by-side trucks.

As one of the trucks, with the dump trailer raised, set out to dump the trash, it hit a weak spot in the dump and tipped over to the side. During the incident, the trailer of the overturned truck landed on the cab of the vehicle next to it, killing the driver, Gurney, who was inside.

The Utah Office of Occupational Safety and Health says an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
