9-year-old boy honored at Buffalo police awards ceremony

The annual ceremony honors first responders who have taken action to save lives in dramatic situations. There is also the Mayor’s Civilian Merit Award, which went to 9-year-old Deandre Coleman.

Deandre and his siblings were at home when his mother started having a seizure. Deandre ran outside and found officers nearby, then guided them on how to help his mother.

More than 60 awards were presented at Thursday’s event, recognizing Buffalo police officers and civilians.

Mayor Byron Brown and Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia attended the event.
