Archer taken to hospital after accident in Rock Valley

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa – An Archer woman was hospitalized after an accident near Rock Valley on Thursday morning, May 16th.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, just before 7:40 a.m., 17-year-old Kiara Hickey of Doon was driving a 2016 Honda Accord southbound on Garfield Avenue, three miles east of Rock Valley. She stopped for a stop sign on Highway 18, according to the report. They say 62-year-old Rhonda Vandenhull of Archer was driving a 2024 Cadillac XT5 eastbound on Highway 18 and 61-year-old Gilberto Martinez of Rock Valley was driving a 2018 Ford Escape northbound on Garfield Avenue.

According to the report, Martinez stopped at a stop sign on Highway 18. Hickey entered the intersection where her Honda and the Vandenhull Cadillac collided. Following this collision, both the Vandenhull Cadillac and the Hickey Honda collided with the Martinez Ford.

Rock Valley Ambulance took Vandenhull to Hegg Health Center.

The Honda sustained approximately $9,000 in damage; The Cadillac suffered an estimated $13,000 in damage and the Ford sustained approximately $12,000.

Hickey was accused of failing to yield while entering a thoroughfare.

The sheriff’s office said the Rock Valley Police Department, Rock Valley Ambulance Squad, Rock Valley Fire Department and Sioux County Conservation assisted in responding to the accident.
